Warwick Castle, situated on the banks of the River Avon, is one of the finest medieval fortresses in England with a history stretching back over 1100 years. The first fortification was built by Ethelfleda, daughter of King Alfred The Great, and the first castle was built in 1068 when William The Conqueror was consolidating his power in England. The Castle has life-like wax models of the ancient castle's inhabitants in-situ, as if going about their daily business. It really does feel like you have travelled back in time! The castle has 64 acres of gardens landscaped by Capability Brown, a Peacock Garden complete with topiary and roaming peacocks, and spectacular live falconry and jousting displays.
