Cookie Policy

Who we are
This site is run by British Tours Ltd, 168 Regent Street, London W1B 5TB (company number [FILL IN]). We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us on +44 (0)20 7038 0688 or at tours@britishtours.com.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. They let a site remember things between pages and between visits — that you are logged in, what is in your booking basket, or which choices you have already made. Some are set by us, some by other companies whose services appear on our pages.
We also use technologies that work like cookies, such as browser local storage. Where this policy says "cookies", it covers those too.
Cookies we use
Strictly necessary
These keep the site working. We do not need your permission for them, and you cannot turn them off through our banner — without them the site and the booking basket stop functioning.
| Name | Set by | How long | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| british_tours_session | British Tours | 2 hours | Keeps your session and booking basket together as you move between pages |
| XSRF-TOKEN | British Tours | 2 hours | Protects forms against cross-site request forgery |
| bt_cookie_consent | British Tours | 180 days | Remembers the cookie choice you made, so we stop asking |
| _GRECAPTCHA | 6 months | Powers reCAPTCHA, which stops automated abuse of our enquiry and booking forms |
Analytics — only with your permission
These tell us how the site is used: which pages people read, which tours they look at, where visits come from. We use it to decide what to improve. They stay off unless you accept them.
| Name | Set by | How long | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | 2 years | Tells one visitor apart from another |
| _ga_ZNLH7GVNWL | Google Analytics | 2 years | Keeps track of a single visit to the site |
Advertising — only with your permission
These let us show British Tours advertising to people who have already visited the site, and tell us whether an advert led to a booking. They stay off unless you accept them.
| Name | Set by | How long | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| _gcl_au | 90 days | Records that you arrived from an advert, so a later booking can be linked back to it | |
| IDE, test_cookie | Google (DoubleClick) | Up to 13 months | Measures advert performance and limits how often you see the same advert |
Content from other sites
Some pages include a TripAdvisor review widget. When one of those pages loads, TripAdvisor may set its own cookies. We do not control them, and TripAdvisor's own privacy notice explains what it collects.
Your choices
The first time you visit we ask whether you accept optional cookies. Accepting and rejecting are equally easy, and nothing beyond the strictly necessary cookies is set until you accept.
You can change your mind whenever you like. Select Cookie settings at the bottom of any page and choose again. Rejecting after previously accepting stops any further optional cookies being set; to clear ones already stored, use your browser's controls below.
We will ask again after 180 days, or sooner if you clear your cookies.
Browser controls
Every major browser lets you see, block, and delete cookies. The settings live under Privacy in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge. Blocking all cookies will stop the booking basket working, because it depends on the strictly necessary cookies listed above.
Where your data goes
Google and TripAdvisor are based in the United States and may process data there or in other countries outside the UK. Both operate under transfer safeguards approved for use from the UK, including the UK extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. Our privacy policy explains more about how we handle personal data.
Changes to this policy
If we add or remove a cookie, we will update this page and the date at the top. If the change affects what you have already agreed to, we will ask you again.
