Hever Castle was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry Vlll. It was this marriage which led to Henry's split with Rome. Inside the castle you will see armour, tapestries, Tudor portraits and Anne Boleyn's Book of Hours. The portcullis seen here in the courtyard is one of the oldest working portcullises in the country. The drawbridge was reinstated by William Waldorf Astor, the wealthiest man in America at the time, who purchased and renovated the castle from 1903 to 1908.
