The White Horse of Cherhill cut into the chalk Wiltshire downs is one of many hillside figures that adorn England's landscape.

Many of these figures are prehistoric though this White Horse is fairly recent in comparison, cut in 1780 by Dr Christopher Allsop, who was rumoured to have shouted his design through a megaphone from the village below.
