About The Tour

Magnificent Chartres Cathedral is widely considered to mark the high point of Gothic architecture in France.

See the vast nave and the royal portal adorned with sculptures, many carved between 1145 and 1170. On the west façade you will see the two towers built 300 years apart - the one in flamboyant Gothic style, the other crafted in the Romanesque style.

The Cathedral houses over 150 beautiful stained glass windows, covering over 21,500 sq ft in all, illustrating scenes from the Bible. Each window is divided into panels - with the assistance of your Paris tour guide, decipher the hidden messages of the main windows: the tree of Jesse, the blue Virgin window, Mary Magdalene and the Redemption window.

Also walk the Labyrinth inlaid in the floor of the nave which was used by pilgrims as a penance - your guide will help you find the secret to finding the exit. In the Apsidal chapel, discover the treasure of the cathedral including the veil of the Virgin.

After your visit, see some of the medieval parts of the city of Chartres, before the return drive to Paris through the golden wheatfields of the Beauce landscape.

Your tour guide will collect you from your Paris hotel.
