Visit Lacock village which was used for many period films including the BBC's 1995 Pride And Prejudice adaptation and more recently Harry Potter! Lacock Abbey is one of the few abbeys to survive Tudor times. The George Inn, an authentic 13th century inn is a great place to have lunch and is one of the oldest licensed pub in England (lunch meal not included).

Continue to Bath, the city where Persuasion and Northanger Abbey are mainly set. The city of Bath was founded as a health spa by the Romans; visit its Roman Baths and Pump Room which remain among the finest antiquities in the country. Bath was the home of Jane Austen from 1800 - 1806. “I really believe I shall always be talking of Bath .... I do like it so very much. Oh! Who can ever be tired of Bath,” wrote Jane Austen in 'Northanger Abbey' (1818). Step into the Fashion Museum, housed in the famous Assembly Rooms, also described in this novel.

Look beyond the famous Palladian façade of the Royal Crescent: go in No.1 Royal Crescent, the first house to be built in the Crescent and see what life was like for the wealthy and their servants in 18th century Bath. Each room is an exquisite example of Georgian interior design with authentic furniture, paintings, textiles and carpets.

Visit Winchester where, suffering from a kidney disorder, Jane Austen moved to in 1817 to be close to her physician. She only lived a few weeks in the house on College Street (now a private residence). She died on 18 July 1817 and was laid to rest in Winchester Cathedral.

Next, visit Steventon, a quaint village where Jane Austen was born and lived for 25 years until her family moved to Bath. The rectory where she lived was demolished but the 12th Century church where her father was a vicar and where she used to worship to still stands unchanged.

Jane's full social life in Steventon provided her with material for her novels, and she wrote Pride & Prejudice, Northanger Abbey and Sense & Sensibility there, even though these were only published later.

Spend some time at Jane Austen's home in Chawton, a 17th Century house where she lived for 8 years with her mother and sister and worked on 'Emma', 'Persuasion' & 'Mansfield Park'. Her home now houses a fascinating collection of memorabilia including the table she used to write on, letters, a quilt she made, jewellery... Drive through the small town of Alton where Jane and her sister used to walk to daily. They would shop and collect the family mail from the local branch of their brother’s bank, at number 10 on the High Street. Jane’s doctor lived opposite the Curtis Museum at no.4 High Street.

Return to London. The tour ends in central London.
