In the 1980's Prince Charles famously described a number of London's new building developments as 'great carbuncles' blighting the landscape. Many believe that his outspoken criticism and keen interest in the plans for Paternoster Square led to the area's sympathetic redevelopment, with its sense of the medieval alleyways which stood there before the Luftwaffe bombed London during WW2, as well as its dramatic aspects of imposing St Paul's Cathedral.
