West
Coast of Ireland
|
Ireland is a lush green island of spectacular beauty and
people who in spite of having had more than their fair share
of wars and disasters have retained their relaxed good
humour, wit, love of old customs, folk traditions, music,
poetry and a story-telling history of fairies, leprechauns
and banshees going back over 2000 years.
Your route takes you through the beautiful
Cotswolds via Stratford-Upon-Avon,
Ludlow and Shrewsbury into Wales. There will
be time to see the Snowdonia National Park and at
least one of the massive Edward I Castles in North Wales
where you will spend your first night.
In the morning take the ferry from Holyhead to Dun
Laoghaire and drive on to Dublin where you will
spend two nights. Explore Dublin, the fine Cathedrals of St
Patrick and Christ Church, Trinity College, ancient Dublin
Castle, George Bernard Shaw's birthplace and the James Joyce
Tower. Visit historic Malahide Castle and Castle
Town House, Ireland's largest and finest Georgian
country house.
Drive
via Powerscourt Gardens and Waterfall,
probably the finest in Ireland owned by the Slazenger
family, and the beautiful gardens at Mount Usher.
Spend the night at Waterford where you can see famous
crystal factory. Continue via Ardmore, a popular
seaside resort, the ruins of Blarney Castle with the
famous Stone of Eloquence pretty Kinsale and historic
Cork. Visit Bantry House, beautifully situated
on Bantry Bay on your way to Killarney, a perfect
location in which to spend two nights.
Take a whole day to drive the famous "Ring of Kerry" and
enjoy the breathtaking mountain and coastal scenery. You
will see many delightful villages of which Adare is
the best known and some splendid castles: 12th century St
Johns at Limerick, formidable Bunratty and
meticulously restored Knappogue. Ennis with
its narrow winding lanes and artistically painted shop
fronts is a lovely place to spend your next night.
See nature at its most dramatic - the breathtaking Cliffs
of Moher and the Burren a fascinating limestone
plateau. Continue via Galway to the lake and mountain
scenery of Connemara. Spend two nights in this
beautiful region where the famous ponies run wild. Also
visit imposing Kylemore Abbey, a romantic lakeside
castle. On your last day you will be taken to Shannon
airport.
