Ancient Rome, 4 hours
Private
tour by car and driver-guide
This awe-inspiring tour of ancient Rome is the highlight of
any visit to the capital city. With your private
driver-guide, see the Colosseum, an iconic symbol of
the period and one of the finest surviving examples of Roman
architecture. Inaugurated byTitus in 80 A.D. it is the
largest ampitheatre ever built with seating for 50,000
spectators where gladiators fought to the death, mock sea
battles were held and public executions carried out. Close
by the Roman Forum were the political and commercial
heart of ancient Rome where you will marvel at the
sophistication of the Romans. Wander among the impressive
ruins and feel the place come to life as your guide regales
stories of the daily rituals and activities that took place
2000 years ago.
See the imposing Triumphal Arch dedicated to
Constantine, a classic monument constructed from parts of
earlier buildings, and the Palatine Hill the most
central of the seven hills of Rome and one of the most
ancient parts of the city. The view from the top is to one
side the magnificent Roman Forum and the other the Circus Maximus,an ancient hippodrome and mass
entertainment site where deadly chariot races would take
place. Then on to the Pantheon, the most unique and
well-preserved of the ancient Roman monuments. This
remarkable structure is a perfect sphere and its excellent
state is owed to it's becoming a Christian Church in the 7th
century. Wonder at the colossal granite Corinthian Columns
and the sheer magnitude of a building that looks more like
the work of god than of man. Raphael, the famous Renaissance
painter and Vittorio Emmanuel II, the King of united Rome
are both buried here.
Whilst your tours in Rome are by private car, please note
that many of the sites require some walking to fully
appreciate the sights.
