Harry Potter Locations - 2 Days
You
may prefer to take a British Tours guide for two days to see
the Harry Potter sights - keeping the children happy with
shorter days and the adults happy with other historic sights
on the way.
DAY
1. On your way to Britain's most mysterious prehistoric
monument Stonehenge, visit the real Number 4
Privet Drive where Harry lives with the Dursleys.
In the 'Sorcerer's Stone' hundreds of letters are magically
delivered here by owls addressed to "Mr H. Potter, the
Cupboard under the Stairs, 4 Privet Drive, Little Whinging,
Surrey".
Lacock Abbey provided some of the backdrops for
Hogwarts' classrooms scenes in 'The Sorcerer's Stone' and
'The Chamber of Secrets'. Lacock will also feature in the forthcoming ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ due out 21 November 2008. Bath, where you will spend
the night, is a World Heritage City famous not only for its
splendid Georgian Architecture but also for its magnificent
Roman Baths and Hot Springs.
DAY 2. Head off to Gloucester Cathedral
(pictured). This splendid Cathedral, over 900 years old,
provided several settings for 'Harry Potter and the
Sorcerer's Stone' and 'The Chamber of Secrets' including
Hogwarts' corridors, the talking portraits, ghost scenes,
and the overflowing bathrooms.
Your next stop is Oxford which provided various
interior locations for Hogwarts, including the hospital and
Hogwarts' library (restricted access to the library). Christ
Church College's wonderful staircase was used for many of
the interior shots in 'The Sorcerer's Stone' and 'The
Chamber of Secrets' whilst its majestic Tudor dining hall
was the inspiration for Hogwarts' dining room.
