Drive
through Kent - the Garden of England - with its lush fields
and pretty villages to medieval Canterbury. Its splendid
Norman cathedral was the scene of the murder of Thomas
Becket in 1170 when he was the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Visit Leeds (left), a fairy-tale castle over 1,000 years
old, set on an island in the middle of a lake and surrounded
by beautifully landscaped gardens, also known as Lady's
Castle because of the many Queens of England who lived here.
Dover is renowned for its great stretch of white chalk
cliffs and fine 12th century castle. If time permits see the
Channel Tunnel entrance which links Britain with France and
its interesting exhibition.|

Spend
a leisurely day in this Regency seaside resort with its
famous Royal Pavilion (right) - one of the most dazzling and
exotically beautiful buildings in the British Isles. Visit
the 'Lanes' Brighton's narrow streets famous for their
antique shops. Return through some delightful countryside
via Arundel Castle, home of the Duke of Norfolk and his
ancestors for over 700 years, built in the 11th century
situated in magnificent grounds overlooking the river Arun,
or Petworth House with one of the largest and finest
collections of pictures in the country; Turner had a studio
here and painted many pictures of the large and beautiful
deer park.

three of the following: Sissinghurst, the world
famous Gardens created by Vita Sackville-West and
Sir Harold Nicholson; Sheffield Park, a 100 acre
garden originated in the 18th century with a series
of lakes linked by cascades and richly planted over
the succeeding centuries; Wakehurst Place a very
large and scenically magnificent garden covering a
naturally dramatic site of woodlands rocky valleys
streams and lakes; Batemans (right) home of Rudyard
Kipling with gardens that include an exceptional
herb garden and a water mill that still grounds
flour; Nymans boasting one of the first heather
garden in the country, a sunken garden with
lanterns and the great stone wisteria - clad
pergola a favourite feature of so many Italian
gardens; Leonardslee, a most spectacular garden
comprising one of the best collections of unusual
trees, shrubs, rhododendrons,azaleas and chamelias
in the British Isles.|
