Oxford
is England's oldest university dating back to the 11th
century; see its magnificent spires, cloistered colleges,
secluded gardens and renowned libraries. Blenheim Palace was
built to reward John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough and
ancestor of Sir Winston, for his defeat of the French at
Blenheim in 1704. Magnificent Windsor Castle is the largest
inhabited castle in the world, beautifully situated along
the river Thames. See the State Apartments, St. George's
Chapel and Queen Mary's Dolls' House.
The
ancient university city of Cambridge has college buildings
of all architectural styles with peaceful lawns and meadows
leading down to the river Cam. Half-timbered Queen's College
is one of the most picturesque and King's College Chapel
(right) has some of the finest Gothic fan vaulting in
