Constable Country Tour

Private car/minibus - 9 Hours

Eight hundred years ago the courts of Cambridge's mediaeval colleges were built on the banks of the River Cam. Visit Trinity College, founded by Henry VIII, and where the Great Court was the setting for a race against the clock in the film, "Chariots of Fire".

Visit one or two of the colleges such as Magdalene, where the hall is still lit only by candles and where Samuel Pepys Diary is held in the library. Explore the narrow lanes around the Cavendish Laboratory where Ernest Rutherford became the first man to split the atom. In the afternoon drive to the River Stour where John Constable's father owned Flatford Mill.

The countryside around East Bergholt is instantly recognisable from Constable's remarkable landscape paintings - the Haywain, the White Horse and Dedham Vale. Little has changed in the two hundred years since Constable drew his inspiration from the light and the landscape by the Stour.
